9 min read

Folks you know that in this Cricket World Cup of 2023 their is a hooting that “Jitega bhai jitega Afganistan jitega.”that you may notice during the match in New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, but there is catch that their were only few Afghans and most of them were Indians and the time duration of these hooting were around for 8 hours.

This love is not only among fans but some well known cricketers and commentators  like Irfan Pathan or Harbhajan Singh were also enjoying the victory of Afghanistan. A very well known Afghan cricket Rashid Khan also praised India and Indians for their love and respect. This love is shown in cricket but beyond the borders that if a Indian tourist travel to Afghanistan that they bestow upon their Indian tourists the status of a deity.

On the other hand  relationship between Afghanistan and Pakistan is complex and fraught with historical, political, and cultural tensions. Afghans harbor animosity towards Pakistan for various reasons. These include allegations of their interference in Afghan affairs, support for militant groups that have destabilized Afghanistan, and disputes over the border region known as the Durand Line. Furthermore, Afghan sentiments are often fueled by a sense of historical betrayal and the perception that Pakistan has not been a reliable neighbor. The dynamics of mistrust and conflict have deep roots and continue to shape the relationship between the two countries.

Why Afghans loves Indians

To understand this blog to our readers easily we distributed this topic into 3 sections. I know that there are many other factors but lets talk about these 3 factors.

Indians

1.Political Reasons:-  Guys you know that  Afghanistan is an important allay of India. This relationship  between these countries is it’s a tradition dating back many years. In 1996 Taliban had captured Kabul and these relation were kind a week at that time. During the rule of Taliban they killed the former President  Mohammad Najibullah within 2 days.

They shot the President hanged his body on  a crane and whole world was in shock to hear the news of assassination. in 2001 Taliban seized power in a coup and the friendship between the two countries also became stronger. The impact was that India became the biggest Regional Supporter in reconstruction of  Afghanistan. Indian Government provided scholarships, built schools etc. through different initiative. India also helped in building the Parliament in Kabul and it was completed in 2015 P.M  Narendra Modi was also presented in Kabul during the inauguration and Indian Government spend around $90 million.

  • In 2016 India also helped in completion of Salma Dam. This Dam can produce 42 MegaWatts of electricity and can irrigate 75,000 Hectares of land. This dam also gives clean drinking to Afghans.
  •  also helped in the construction Zaranj-Delaram Highway which helps in increase in connectivity and new areas of trade were also opened.
  • In Feb2021 Shahtoot Dam in Char Asiab District of Kabul is also in construction. This Dam will be constructed by engineers from India
  • Construction of some stadiums, hospitals and power station are also going on.

Every thing is going fine until in August 2021 Taliban took control over Afghanistan. Because of this many projects are on hold for some time but after sometime Taliban requested Indian Gov. to reopen their projects and many of them were  started. India also invested $3 Billion.

Taliban also requested to train their security forces so that they can improve their security infrastructure and capability. During the time of Covid India also helped Afghans by sending 5 lakh doses of vaccine in Jan 2022. India also send 50 trucks containing 2,500 metric tons of wheat for humanity. Around 14,000 Afghans students were also studying in India in 2023 and ICCR Indian Council For Cultural Relation also giving them scholarship support.

Indian cinema

2. Bollywood Love:- They are huge fan of Bollywood films that is the reason you can hear Hindi songs in their Taxis. A lot of Bollywood film posters which shows the love of Bollywood films for them. A lot of Bollywood shooting were also done here like Dharmatma, Janasheen, Khuda Gawah etc. They also wants to know about The City of Dreams Mumbai. There are huge fans of Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan’s affection for Indian movies runs deep, transcending mere entertainment to become a cultural phenomenon deeply ingrained in the fabric of Afghan society. For decades, Bollywood films have captivated Afghan audiences with their vibrant storytelling, colorful dance sequences, and melodious music. The popularity of Indian cinema in Afghanistan can be attributed to various factors, including historical ties between the two nations, shared cultural values, and the universal themes depicted in Bollywood movies.

Historically, India and Afghanistan have shared close diplomatic and cultural relations, dating back centuries. This historical connection has fostered a sense of familiarity and affinity among Afghans towards Indian culture, including its cinema. Additionally, the geographical proximity between the two countries has facilitated the exchange of films and cultural influences over the years.

Indian Cricket

3. Cricket Related Reasons:- Cricket also played an important role in building a strong relation. In World Cup of 2023  if Indian fans were supporting any team other than the Indian team, it was Afghanistan.  Afghanistan team’s  historical victory over England in New Delhi then whole stadium gave a standing ovation to them. Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mohamad Nabi are the names that not much Indian Cricket fan knows.

These players also never stop praising Indians. It is said that India is second home to Afghans players. The journey of  struggles of Afghanistan team was also very hard but India also plays an important role in contributing in their journey. It is said that cricket was started in 1839 during the Anglo-Afghan War in Afghanistan but it was not that much popular there. In 1926 when Afghanistan got the tag of Unified Independent Country. Before that country was struggling between terrorism and famine due to that a lot of Afghans were migrating to Pakistan and at that time were reintroduced by Cricket.

When in 1992 Pakistan won their first Cricket World Cup Afghans also thought of their own team and 1995 Afghan Cricket  Federation was established in Kabul. The establishment was done but due the interference of Taliban common people were having difficulties and there were not that much resources available for them and making a name for themself in the whole world was very difficult. After showing the passion and hard work India helped their friend once more and BCCI also helped them by giving them training in Delhi and Dehradun. BCCI also provided them with ground, technology, staff etc.

A team which was started in 1995 became a strong team in 2023 World Cup. A team which had nothing but hope. Most of the Afghan players started their Cricket journey in Pakistan refugee camps. We are always by their side. Afghanistan doesn’t have any International Stadium and haven’t even hosted any International Match in their home. But BCCI helped them by making 3 Stadium as a home ground of Afghanistan and the stadiums are at Kolkata, Greater Noida and Dehradun and numerous series were also held their. An Indian brand name Amul sponsored Afghanistan team and their mentor is former cricketer Ajay Jadeja.

"Why Afghans hate Pakistan?"

Lets go back to the history around 130 years back. At that time India was under the influence of Britishers. Before the partition Afghanistan was our neighboring country but the border was not cleared. To solve this conflict Mortimer Durand was chosen by Britshers. In 1893 British India send Mortimer Durand and Afghanistan send Abdur Rahman Khan and they both drew a line of 2640 km which known as Durand Broder.

Pakistan

In 1926 Amanullah Khan became the king of Afghanistan then he decline to accept this border line from here to present Government of Afghanistan no one accepted the Durand Border as their international border. Afghans thought that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as their part of land. Due to this they had dispute between Pakistani soldiers. Their neighbours also did deadly Air Strike, at the Torkham border, strict vigilance is maintained and sharing the sensitive information to U.S.A like accusation on them and these are the reason why Afghanistan hates Pakistan but loves India.
